Statistics concerning NCDs have shown an increase and the world health organization has a report that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) – mainly cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes – are the leading cause of death worldwide. More than 38 million people die annually from NCDs (63% of global deaths), including 16 million people who die before the age of 70. Nearly 50% of global disability is attributed to NCDs.

Creating awareness will help in the reduction of the  avoidable burden caused by NCDs and their risk factors. This includes dedicated efforts by policymakers, awareness to communities will lessen the burden of NCDs. Eswatini Ministry of Health has embarked on making policies that will help in the fight against NCDs, MoH has formulated a strategic plan to help in the reduction of the burden of NCds..
